Lou Ellen Hurst Johnson, age 90, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Hospice of Hope in Maysville.
She was born July 4, 1935, in Hillsboro, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Holman Johnson Hurst and Beth Eula Basford Ramey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Willie “Billy” D. Johnson, on May 30, 2016; her stepfather, Estill Ramey, Sr.; three brothers, Charles K. Ramey, Estill Ramey, Jr., and Lucien “Sam” Ramey; and an infant sister, Dorothy Ramey.
Lou Ellen is survived by two sons, Joey (Kim) Johnson of LaGrange and Todd (Melina) Johnson of Hillsboro; one daughter, Stephanie (Willis) Denton of Hillsboro; four grandsons, Gary Johnson, Ben (Lauren) Johnson, Dustin Johnson, and Nicholas (Haley) Johnson; one granddaughter, Lauren J. (Will) Fraser; three great-granddaughters, Ryan Hadley Johnson, Sarah Grey Johnson, and Valentina Johnson; and one great-grandson, Henry Johnson.
Other survivors include her sister, Bertie Ann Ramey Cooper and family of Flemingsburg; her brother- and sister-in-law, Tom and Marge Johnson of Hobart, Indiana; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lou Ellen graduated from Fleming County High School in 1954. She worked as a beautician for 30 years before retiring. In earlier years, she was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Hillsboro and the Fleming County Circuit Clerk’s Office, and later served as a foster grandparent at Hillsboro Elementary School.
Lou Ellen attended Hillsboro Christian Church, Fox Valley Community Church, and Little Mary Church. She enjoyed watching UK ballgames and spending time visiting with family and friends. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Grimes and Brother Randy Fritz officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gary Johnson, Ben Johnson, Dustin Johnson, and Nicholas Johnson, along with Chucky Ramey and Shane Ramey.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
